Module Indicative Content
This substantial project provides the opportunity for you to draw together all the practical experience and critical understanding you have acquired about music broadcasting in general and radio station practices in particular. You negotiate with your supervisor at the start of the module the nature of the project and the role you will undertake in the management of the student radio station, GK Radio, across the two semesters. You will also negotiate, according the nature of your role, what evidence you will present for assessment and the criteria to be applied in assessing it. The culmination of the project is an extensive critical reflection on the role you have undertaken, which places your practical experiences in the wider historical and contemporary context of music broadcasting.
Module Learning Strategies
This is an individual project designed for those students who involve themselves in the running of the student radio station, GK Radio for the whole of the two semesters. At the start of your module you will devise a learning plan with your supervisor and negotiate the parameters of your project and its assessment. Your learning will come mainly from your involvement in the day to day running of some aspect of the radio station as a senior member of the management team. But you will also carry out your own parallel research into how this role is conducted in professional music radio stations and how it influences the 'sound' and output of those stations. You will monitor and reflect on your progress throughout and, at the end of the module, write a substantial critical reflection on your conduct of your role and its place within the wider context of music broadcasting.
