Module Indicative Content
Part 1: Dissertation Report
Define the area, topic, question or problem for your dissertation.
Establish the nature of the project you are proposing - a descriptive survey, argument, problem to be solved, comparative analysis - and the kind of material and methodologies appropriate for your chosen topic - theoretical, empirical, textual, ethnographic, etc.
Research and prepare a list of filmographic, bibliographic, video and radio programmes.
Outline the chapter structure of the dissertation.
Part 2: Dissertation
To develop and redefine the ideas proposed in the report under the continued supervision of their tutor.
Locate appropriate sources and apply appropriate methodologies.
Draft and redraft the dissertation as necessary and organise presentation and production of a completed work.
Module Learning Strategies
You will progress by initially attending group tutorials with a tutor for brainstorming and peer-discussion, and research skills sessions with a librarian, and then individual tutorials with your supervisor. This module is designed to enable you to plan a feasible dissertation project (Pt. 1), and to undertake independent research (Requiring reading, viewing and listening in relation to chosen topic, and collecting and organising relevant material) and drafting/writing up of dissertation. (Pt.2).
