A BUSINESS PLAN at 30% [Learning Outcome 1]
Individually marked, you will structure a plan for marketing and sending out your showreel for industry.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
You will create a professional actor’s showreel for the screen, echoing professional practice and collaborating with media/TV production students.
A series of weekly lectures will introduce you to the form and content of a professional showreel which will enable you to understand what is expected and the industry standard to showcase your screen acting work. This module will also explore the ways in which actors and agents market showreels and how the industry and casting directors utilise them as a part of the production process.
Working with students and colleagues in the Film and Media Award Areas, you will create a 10 minute showreel which will contain a series of contrasting dramatic pieces. Having an input into the editing and ‘look’ and ‘feel’ of the showreel will be paramount to these later stages.
You will also put together a ‘business plan’ to market your showreel, building on the work of ‘Professional Development for Screen’.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
A series of lectures will allow you to examine other actor’s showreels and contextualise your own project. Independent screenings will allow you to see finished products and understand the

Editing workshops will give you the tools to edit your own material into a showreel.
On-line tutorials will support students in the creation of the Development Plan.
