Appropriate studio/workshop facilities
Lecture/Seminar space
CW's equipped with appropriate digital software (e.g. Photoshop / Painter / Toon Boom Storyboard) and hardware (e.g. Wacom tablets, high spec computers, WACOM Cintiqs (touch screen))
Students are expected to take advantage of the extensive library facilities available within the University, keeping abreast of current developments through appropriate periodicals, CD-ROMs, online resources and be aware of the work of major practitioners within the field of concept design, character design, visual effects, games design and film props / media.
The Blackboard virtual learning environment will be available (where relevant) to support this module. Details will be supplied in the module handbook.
Module Learning Strategies
Watching demonstrations of various drawing processes, digital input of traditional artwork, re-touching, re-colouring, layout techniques and storyboard production (traditional and using software based solutions).
Independently developing your visualisation and layout skills in the studio, CW's, other parts of the university / at home / offsite.
Presenting your work in a competent, professional and organised manner, using the systems and methods defined by the module assignment / module staff.
Module Indicative Content
Preparation of 2D artwork, to be translated into digital media for subsequent re-working / re-touching / re-colouring. Instructor led demonstrations of appropriate workflows / software usage, to include custom brush preparation, swatches, layer control / use.
TI sessions (where required) providing key Health & Safety instruction and Input / Output instructions (e.g. scanners and printers)
Module Additional Assessment Details
100% Coursework comprising: A portfolio of work demonstrating the understanding and competence in visualisation skills demonstrated and referenced across the course of the module. [Learning Outcomes 1-4]
