Module Indicative Content
This module will introduce you to the challenge of 'concept origination' via the creation of multiple design proposals in answer to a specific, written and/or verbal brief.
You will be introduced to a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques that can be used to develop / communicate initial ideas through to more finished presentation pieces.
An appreciation of the importance of three dimensional sketch modelling in the furtherment/development of concept proposals.
Health and Safety modulettes for 3D Workshop (Wood / Metal and Plastic as appropriate)
Induction modulettes in support of IS/AMD CW resources (i.e.scanners and printers)
Access further sources of reading and development e.g. the Internet and the Thompson Library
Module Additional Assessment Details
One assignment requiring a specified number of alternative solutions based upon a written brief and verbal briefing worth 100% [ALL learning outcomes]
All presentations are to be accompanied by reports / documentation / briefs, presentation media (to include 2D and 3D), flatwork, sketchbooks etc. Formal and informal communication / presentations to staff, peers and companies will also be considered when formulating a final grade.
ALL design work to be supported via A3/A2 layout pads, notebooks, with all digital content to be complied on a CD-ROM/DVD

Module Learning Strategies
Accumulate reference imagery / inspirational materials - film, game and via first hand research
Undertake a combination of studio and workshop based activities (drawing, sketch modelling, colour printing) in the development and refinement of appropriate solutions/proposals (as defined within the brief).
Develop appropriate solutions in relation to a character requirement (creature, human or robotic) suitable for the specified film or game requirement/scenario.
Work independently in the computer workshops, workshops, the studios, and other areas of the University.
Access and utilise materials and information distributed via VLE system (e.g. Blackboard/internet)
