Module Additional Assessment Details
Three assignments to be presented in the form of
(a) a practical 'design' assignment, based upon a written brief and verbal briefing worth 50% [Learning Outcomes 1,2,3,4 and 5]
(b) a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation based upon a field trip worth 25% [Learning Outcomes 1, 3 and 4]
(c) sketchwork documenting 'life' drawing / 'analytical' assessment of form, aesthestics, proportion etc worth 25% [Learning Outcome 4]
ALL projects to be supported via sketchbooks, notebooks, with all digital content to be compiled on a CD-ROM/DVD.

Module Indicative Content
This module will introduce you to the techniques and theory employed in the creation of a 'concept designs' allowing you to originate 'solutions' to a specific, written and verbal brief. (Part A)
The module will provide you with an appreciation of how 'observation' and 'analysis' can used to inform and inspire designs at the 'concept' stage, leading to more credible / refined solutions at latter stages of the design process. (Part C)
You will use a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques to present your ideas to both staff and peers. (Part B and C)
You will experience a range of approaches to `image? composition and assembly in 2D, using such applications as Adobe?s Photoshop. (Part B)
You will reflect upon the effectiveness of technology has had in the enhancement and refinement of these techniques. (Part B)
You will reflect on your learning and personal skills development over the course of the module.
Supporting this module will be a range of computer workshop sessions, complemented by tutorial movies covering most aspects of the module content / requirements, providing you with the skills to work competently in the computer workshops.

Module Learning Strategies
Participate in a short field trip to accumulate reference imagery / inspirational materials
In a series of instructor / tutor led workshops you will become familiar with a compositing / editing software application, such as Adobe Photoshop.
Attend instructor led computer workshops, watching instructor led demonstrations and completing these exercises over the course of the module.
Work on a variety of workshop / studio based assignments
Work independently in the computer workshops, the studios, and other areas of the University
Access and utilise instructor led tutorial movies distributed via VLE system (eg BlackBoard / Internet)
Access further sources of reading and development e.g. the Internet and the Thompson library
