Learning Strategies
1 x 3 hour lecture/lab per week

Learning on all aspects of the module will be facilitated by lectures, tutorials, problem solving exercises and student centred learning.

Practical assignments using laboratory equipment and post production facilities will support the learning.
Indicative Content
Student will undertake an in-depth study into the discipline of digital matte painting. Studying workflows from conception through to final image, students will integrate traditional paint practices, adding light and shadow, texturing elements, and incorporating motion and depth combined with photographs and 3D environments to realise their final matte painting.

Students will cover the following topics:

- Connecting surfaces
- Lighting and light effects
- Image based lighting
- 3D modelling
- Integration of 3D elements Photos and painting techniques to create a digital matte.
- To enhance matte realism Texturing for projection Greyscale
- Analysis of matte painting for projection.
- Paint-over.
- Back plate grain removal.
- Set Extensions
- Projection Techniques using 3D software (camera per pixel Map)
- Multi Layered projection
- Using multiple cameras for camera projection 180 degree +.
- Animating Camera and camera moves
- Parallax
- Greeble plug in
- After FX for final composite and use of FX plugins.
