Module Learning Strategies
1 x 3 hour lecture/lab per week

Learning on all aspects of the module will be facilitated by lectures, tutorials, problem solving exercises and student centred learning.

Practical assignments using laboratory equipment and post production facilities will support the learning.
Module Additional Assessment Details
100% course work comprising:-

Two pieces of key production/concept art illustrating the climatic moments in a hypothetical film or game. Both pieces will show an advanced understanding of taught techniques (these could include detailed CGI work, refined brush work, expert attention to lighting, etc.) and be accompanied by a reflective discussion.

Learning Outcomes: 1,2,3 and 4
Module Indicative Content
Students will continue to advance their studies and skills in environment concept design. As well as refining the techniques they learned in level 4, they will also tackle vehicle/prop design, working with un-artworked “bare” game levels that they will then paint over, and studying what it takes to produce cinematic concept art and its importance in the industry.

Students will cover the following topics:
• Advanced composition
• Creative use of reference photography
• Vehicle design
• 3D kit bashing
• Applying concept art to game levels
• Achieving the painterly look
• Over coming cliché
• Photo-realism through 3D & Photoshop texturing
• Advanced lighting
• Cinematography
• Industry expectations
Module Web Descriptor
Building upon the knowledge learned in Environment Concept Design 1, students will explore ways to refine their techniques, tackle vehicle/prop design, break cliché, experience typical industry tasks and bring a cinematic sensibility to their work.
