Indicative Content
This module will introduce you to the hands on aspects of virtual production including the integration of real-time visual effects technology alongside the camera tracking and lighting implications. The module will focus on the required preparation for a virtual production shoot.
The module will place virtual production in context with the wider production environment and build your understanding of the toolset and skills required. Practical implications of the technology and processes will be investigated alongside the practical application and creation of assets and content.
The module will bring together your previous experience of camera and lighting technology, Unreal and general content creation skills to help students understand disruptive and convergent technologies. This will help to build an understanding of the limitations and opportunities of the production methods.
Additional Assessment Details
1. Individual Presentation 50% assessing learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4. The individual presentation will be a 10 minute verbal presentation supported by visual aids and illustrative materials. It should details the students understanding of how established processes are adopted into virtual production, the implications of virtual production in contrast to traditional methods and an analysis of teamworking within the VP process.
2. Collaborative Portfolio 50% assessing learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4. The collaborative portfolio consists of a set of production designs and plans across each main area within the virtual production process. Each student will contribute a section of the document built around a single project
Learning Strategies
This module will develop your understanding of virtual production through engaging with research and practical exercises around the technology and methods. Problem-based learning will be used to contextualise the development of solutions using the skills and techniques developed through the module.
Workshops will introduce concepts and themes to build your knowledge and understanding of the subject and enable you to develop your applied skills across a range of production tasks with relevant production tools. Technical Instruction will build your competence in the setup and operation of a range of production equipment
Learning Outcomes
1. On Completion of this module, you will be able to adapt existing knowledge of visual effects processes to integrate virtual production.
Learning
2. On Completion of this module, you will be able to explore a range of production techniques integrated into the virtual production process and question their use.
Enquiry
3. On Completion of this module, you will be able to discriminate between different methods to achieve an end goal in the virtual production process.
