Indicative Content
This module focuses on the final stages of using a virtual production space for filmed content. You will further investigate the practicalities of virtual production and refine the processes of using real time technology.
You will look more closely at the implications of lighting real world elements alongside virtual content. Critical aspects of camera operation and camera tracking will be looked into to fully understand the advantages and disadvantages of using a virtual production space.
The processes of planning for virtual production will be a key area of learning to understand the difference between post production visual effects and final pixel work in a VP space.
Additional Assessment Details
1. Virtual Production Portfolio 50% assessing learning outcomes 1 and 2. The virtual production portfolio should consist of three scenes shot in differing environments. You will work in small crews taking on the major roles in a virtual production studio and collaborating to plan and create the required content. The submission should consist of final pixel images from the VP stage and a collection of assets.
2. Individual Logbook 50% assessing learning outcomes 3 and 4. The individual logbook should record your own working processes and contributions to the practical work. It should demonstrate a process of research and enquiry related to the specific tasks you carried out. The structure of the logbook is flexible but it should include formal written work, illustrative images and diagrams and links to video materials where appropriate.
Learning Strategies
Problem-based learning will be used to contextualise the application of solutions using the skills and techniques developed through the module and from prior learning. Authentic challenges will be presented during the delivery of the module to challenge thought processes and understanding of traditional techniques.
Workshops will introduce concepts and themes to build your knowledge and understanding of the subject and enable you to develop your applied skills across a range of production tasks with relevant production tools. Technical Instruction will build your competence in the setup and operation of a range of production equipment.
Learning Outcomes
1. On completion of this module, you will be able to formulate a set of solutions for a range of production problems in the context of virtual production.
Problem Solving
2. On completion of this module, you will be able to experiment with established techniques and the convergence elements of virtual production to create final pixel footage in a virtual production space. Analysis
3. On completion of this module, you will be able to investigate the new methods of production in relation to virtual production.
Enquiry
4. On completion of this module, you will be able to work with a team to plan and produce footage using a virtual production space.
