100% coursework consisting of:-
A practical DVD production (50%) will assess learning outcomes 2 and 3.
A report of 2000 words (50%) will assess learning outcomes 1 and 4.

Module Indicative Content
Students will learn:
1. Skills in DVD technology and support equipment.
2. Technical skills in production of authoring interactive DVD's across multiple authoring tools.
3. Study the DVD structure from the MPEG encoding and compression to also include VTS and VOB's.
4. Security and encryption techniques from CSS, CPRM, Colour striping and Macrovision.
5. Further develop skills in graphics technology and motion graphics.
6. Introduction to the relevant mathematical theories such as information theory, coding (PCM, DPCM, RLE, Huffman) and frequency transforms (FFT and DCT).

Module Learning Strategies
The module will be taught by lectures and laboratory sessions. A lecture and one hour lab will be run weekly over the twelve week period.
