MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will introduce students to the task of producing an ambitious portfolio of concept designs based on a project that the student and their supervisor decide upon. Regular weekly meetings with the supervisor to monitor the progress of the project will be supplemented by lectures covering a diverse array of topics aligned with the required skills needed for completion:
Project management
Presentation
Advanced 2D/3D techniques
Reflective analysis
Industry portfolio expectations
Pipeline considerations
Portfolio design
All projects will be grounded in the field of Concept Art or would reasonably fall under the duties of an artist within the games industry. Where possible the module will incorporate projects in collaboration with games or film/tv studios. This includes art tests and live briefs where available and appropriate.

Project Production and Management
This consists of:
A Project Proposal in a negotiated field of study, including preliminary research into workflow/pipeline.
Interim and final presentations to the primary and secondary supervisor.

This consists of:
A completed Concept Art artefact in line with the project proposal.
Highly developed artistic solutions to an industry standard visual quality.
Demonstration of advanced technical or industry relevant techniques/solutions in your chosen field7

Project Documentation & Report
This consists of:
A report covering research, critical analysis production and reflection which focuses on the journey and creative processes used through the project.
Each Report book culminates with a breakdown of the practical work.
The style and formatting should align with industry standard press in the style of Vertex.

MODULE LEARNING STRATEGIES
1 x 2 hour lecture and seminar introducing the module and project in Welcome Week
25 x 1 hour Lectures covering Concept Art project management, workflows, employability and portfolio curation
26 weeks of 20 minute Weekly meetings with the Supervisor.
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. On completion of this module you will be able to PRODUCE A HIGH-QUALITY ARTISTIC SOLUTION TO A NEGOTIATED CONCEPT ART PROBLEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH INDUSTRY PRACTICES.
2. On completion of this module you will be able to PROPOSE AND IMPLEMENT AN ADVANCED NEGOTIATED PROGRAMME OF RESEARCH, CRITICAL ANALYSIS AND PRODUCTION, LEADING TO A HIGH-QUALITY CONCEPT ART ARTEFACT.
3. On completion of this module you will be able to IMPLEMENT ADVANCED ARTISTIC AND/OR TECHNICAL AND INDUSTRY RELEVANT TECHNIQUES IN THE PRODUCTION OF THE ARTEFACT.
4. On completion of this module you will be able to COMMUNICATE AND CRITICALLY REFLECT THE DESIGN AND CREATIVE PROCESSES USED IN DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONCEPT ART ARTEFACT IN A REPORT AND PRESENTATIONS.

The Concept Art Project module gives students an opportunity to develop the showcase piece of work for their portfolio. You can focus your work on your career aspirations. Whether it’s stylised characters, grotesque monsters, cyberpunk environments, props from the past, or futuristic vehicles or something more technical. You’ll work with a supervisor to create a highly developed concept art artefact with industry standard software whilst receiving lectures on portfolio development and employability.
