Module Details
Indicative Content
This module will be formed of an overview of the interrelated aspects of virtual production and you will be encouraged to analyse and question current practice and methodologies. The module will build on your overall understanding of virtual production and challenge them to look at critical aspects beyond the technology.
Emerging trends and technologies in virtual production: This will include a retrospective of the technological development and disruptive elements that led to a range of virtual production techniques. Opportunities and challenges in virtual production for film industry: This will include studying the business models, budget implications and practicality of any given solution to develop a deeper understanding of the choices made in production.
Discussion on the future of filmmaking with virtual production: This will be based around investigations on the high speed progress and development of virtual production techniques and the cross over technologies along with the expansion and accessibility to the high end techniques.
This will work alongside a process of production for high end final pixel products utilising the virtual production space.
Additional Assessment Details
1. Short Film 75% assessing learning outcomes 1, 3 and 4. The short film should comprise a complete scene or set of scenes fully produced in the virtual production environment. The film should be produced in small teams with negotiated contribution across each of the key areas of virtual production. 2. Skills resume and action plan 25% assessing learning outcome
2. The skills resume should be presented as a structured CV and website such as LinkedIn. The action plan should detail a set of actions for short term development and life long learning.
Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered through a series of mixed mode lectures and workshops alongside opportunities to debate and discuss the industry in student led seminars.
Practical work will be supported through a supervisor process where you will collaborate and pitch concepts and ideas. Supervising staff will take on the role of a critical friend to challenge and support students through these developmental stages.
Technical instruction and challenges will support your development.
