Module Learning Strategies
A variety of learning strategies will be employed, including lectures, practical and tutorial sessions.
Semester 1: 3 hours per week lectures / Tutorials
Semester 2: 1 hour lecture and a 2 hour lab per week
Each Delivered intensively over the first 8 weeks followed by 4 weeks of surgery sessions
Module Indicative Content
This module is an introduction to the Photoshop and the skills required to produce texture bitmap assets and environment designs for the games industry.
The focus will be on
- Understanding the role of the Games Environment Designer and Texture Artists
- Understanding the development pipeline and work flow for realistic environments
And producing
- Game ready sprite sheets
- User Interfaces and
- Level concepts for 2D games.
These skills are transferable to further studies and texturing for 3D.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A coursework weighted at 100% comprising:-
One Portfolio of Bitmap imagery limited to game engine restrictions assessing Learning Outcomes 1 and 2 weighted at 50%
A Second Portfolio of Bitmap imagery showing environment design assessing Learning Outcomes 3 and 4 weighted at 50%
