INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module aims to give the student an overview of the language of art and design. Including the basic principles of art, an introduction to fundamental art theories and cultural understanding.
Student will develop skills and understanding of:
Introduction to Art
The elements of art (line, space, value, form, texture, colour, shape)
Cultural Reference Development
Art and Design principles
Terminology of Art and Design
Methods of working and creativity
Evaluating and reflecting on personal artwork
Introduction to different thought provoking media and images
LEARNING STRATEGIES
3 hours per week. The module will be delivered using a combination of lectures, seminars, class discussions, media review and supervised tutorials. The work will be of a combination of theory and practical, and students are expected to use their independent study time to consolidate this work.

Portfolio of practical work showing application of art and design principles and theories to the production of visual art in a variety of contexts and media with accompanying journal showing an understanding of the principles of art and design and their relation to contemporary media, art and games.
