Assessment Details
1) The initial project requires the development of strong research and study skills, which are used to undertake a focused piece of academic study based on an agreed proposal. The subject of the research is grounded in Games art with a forum thread communicating your research, testing & analysis. The student should be engaging with scholarship in their area of interest whilst also undertaking practical experimentation and skills development which leads to an outcome. The ongoing progress is documented and presented regularly. The final assets should be presented in a professional manner. (Learning Outcomes 1,2,3 and 4) 50% weighting
2) Complete a negotiated project or live brief based on industry art standards. This is supported by breakdowns, paintings, and a progression documentation in a forum thread. The final outcome is reflected upon making comparisons to industry artwork. The final assets should be presented in a professional manner in accordance with the requirements of the brief. (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4) 50% weighting
Module Indicative Content
The project requires the development of strong research and study skills, which are used to undertake a focused piece of academic study grounded in Games Art.
The student should be engaging with scholarship and games industry practices and workflows in their area of interest.
Students will research and consider some of the following skills / areas:

¿ Traditional art skills (drawing, anatomy, dynamic poses)
¿ Digital sculpting techniques
¿ Hard surface modelling
¿ Games VFX pipeline
¿ Sculpting surface details and forms
¿ Texturing surfaces
¿ Accessories and props (e.g Clothing & Armour)
¿ Material setup, lighting and rendering
¿ Procedural generation tools
¿ Game Engine world building, pre-fabs and art tools.
¿ Game pipelines
¿ Presentation skills
¿ As part of the assignment students will be asked to document their progress and finished designs on the DigitalAcademy forums.
Module Learning Strategies
2 hour lecture/tutorial per week.
The module will be delivered using a combination of lectures, demonstrations and supervised tutorials and primarily Student centred learning.
Lectures will introduce research skills and project management followed by regular group tutorials with the supervisor. The weekly session will help the students to research a bespoke range of subjects in 3D Games Art and reinforce key artistic considerations. Within the scheduled sessions interim presentations will help the supervisor to monitor the student's progress.

This module gives you an opportunity to focus your studies on a specialised subject in Games Art. You could undertake material studies, methods on procedural generation, or photogrammetry. You'll get a chance to complete a live brief from a games studio.
