Module Details
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of complex gameplay systems and mechanics creation within the game engine.
2. Develop methods of enquiry for gameplay systems in existing games and application of these principles for systems design.
3. Evaluate critically the appropriateness of different methodologies and propose solutions to problems arising during systems design.
4. Apply underlying principles for the creation of gameplay systems and mechanics within the game engine.
MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment Component 1 - (Learning Outcomes 1 and 2)
Research and Design of complex Gameplay Systems weighted at 40% consisting of:
- A series of forum posts showing research and deconstruction of gameplay systems within existing games to understand how they function. This will also demonstrate designs and plans for a range of student-designed, complex, interactive gameplay systems.

Assessment Component 2 - (Learning Outcomes 3 and 4)
A Systems Design Portfolio weighted at 60% consisting of:
- Game Engine files showing implemented gameplay systems in-game, video playthrough of the game and critical reflection of the project.
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
During this module you will expand your knowledge of creating interactive gameplay systems. You will build and understanding of:

- Scripting Principles for Complex Systems
- Object Oriented Scripting
- Deconstructing Game Mechanics
- Designing and Planning Game Mechanics
- AI Systems
- Animation Systems
- Gameplay Input and Event Management
- Developing Gameplay Mechanics
- Creating Custom Game Frameworks
WEB DESCRIPTOR
This module develops student knowledge of scripting techniques and the design of complex systems for games. Deconstructing existing mechanics in games, we will design our own gameplay systems before learning how to implement them into a game engine to create our own game framework.
