Module Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered through a combination of :
1A) Strategy A (2 year accelerated part-time route): 2 days intensive workshops (14 hours) plus 8 week period of follow-up study of distance learning VLE activities (10 hours) plus guided work-based learning and academic enquiry.
OR
1B) Strategy B (3 year part-time mode):12 weekly 2 hour classes that will combine on a flexible basis, lectures with group discussion, workshop exercises
2) Directed independent learning (56 hours) through observation in the workplace and guided reading from core texts and internet materials about organisational activities, their impacts and the role of environmental management. Preparation and production of the report (35 hours) and revision and undertaking the test (35 hours).
Module Additional Assessment Details
An EXAM length 2 HOURS weighted at 50% a REPORT length 1000 words weighted at 50%.
2 hour Exam 50% (LOs 1,2 &3)
1000 word Report, typically outlining the key impacts students have observed in their workplaces, and making initial suggestions for ways to attenuate these impacts (LOs 2,3,4 )
Students will be provided with formative assessment within tutorials and throughout the module in terms of reviewing assignment plans, questioning, discussion, group work.
Module Indicative Content
This module explores the significant environmental impacts associated with the workplace and considers measures used to determine and reduce their effects. It examines the impact that organisations have at every stage of their work activities. Each specific stage of work activity is examined: inputs, operations and outputs. The potential impact at each stage is discussed and you will investigate and propose practical solutions related to specific examples from your workplace or work placement.
