1 x 1000 word report on the development of Certificate Level students during semester two. (70%) [1,2,3]
1 x 500 word report upon personal progress to be submitted in week 10 of semester two (30%) [1,4]
Additional Assessment Details:
You must have an up to date log book that meets the requirements for MLTB training
You will have to satisfy appropriate personnel in Stoke on Trent City Council that you are capable of successful work placement.
Formative Assessment: You will receive formative assessment feedback from qualified Honours Level ML students on your progress.

MLTB Mountain Leader Award Training Course (Residential)
Module Learning Strategies
You will attend a residential training course consisting of a total of 6 full days with associated personal study and tutorial work in the evenings. This will include a number of pieces of coursework and self-assessment exercises. This will normally take place in the summer at the end of your first academic year. (50 hours)
Develop practical, managerial and leadership skills required by the Mountain Leader. To this end there are two components: the work placement with Stoke-on-Trent city council (60 hours) and leading Certificate Level groups (30 hours)
You will critically assess your development of experience and skills and produce a short report and provide structured feedback to Certificate Level students. (10 hours)
An introductory workshop will explain the organisation of the module (2 hours).

Module Indicative Content
This module contains five main elements:
1. A training course operated by a Mountain Leader Training Board (MLTB) registered provider. (Stoke-on-Trent City council). The main areas covered by the course are indicated below. For full details of the content please refer to the MLTB Mountain Leader Award Scheme Prospectus and Syllabus, 1- Group management and the responsibilities of the group leader, 2- Navigation, 3- Access and the environment, 4- Hazards and emergency procedures, 5- Equipment, 6- Expedition skills, 7- Weather, 8- Structure of the activity.
2. Development of practical, managerial and leadership skills required by a Mountain Leader.
3. Continual assessment of your personal MLTB logbook and critical appraisal of your personal experience and skills development.
