Module Indicative Content
The module is designed for students to apply skills gained in the geography component of their award to the production of a Desktop Project on a specific geographical issue. The module entails synthesis of published and/or 'grey' material but not substantial fieldwork or collection of primary information. An academic supervisor is allocated to each student to provide guidance.
Module Learning Strategies
a) review of academic literature, organisation of a programme of work, analysis and synthesis, communication of results through production of a word-processed essay that meets stipulated guidelines;
b) a minimum of 4 hours of contact with a supervisor (maximum 8 hours) for specific project guidance
Module Additional Assessment Details
One 3500-4000 word essay [1,2,3]


Formative Assessment: Students have the opportunity to provide their supervisor with essay plans and draft for formative feedback prior to submitting their final version for assessment.
Module Resources
These will vary according to the nature of the project, but will commonly include:
University Library, Faculty of Sciences Learning Resource Centre, IT, Internet & email facilities, and access to GIS and other software.
