Module Learning Strategies
8 hours workshop
142 hours independent study

The workshop will introduce module themes through the use of video and textual resources. Over subsequent weeks you will then work through self-instructional course material providing a structure for reading key texts and papers and specifying tasks to be completed. This work will be undertaken on an individual basis, but at various points you will be expected to interact and share material with other students in a designated learning group.
Module Indicative Content
This module provides an introduction to the basic principles of project design and management within the context of initiatives in support of sustainable development. It begins by providing an overview to the concept of the project cycle management. The basic components of project management are then examined: initiation (situational analysis; resource inventory; asset, problems and needs analysis; visioning futures); project design (developing goals and objectives) project implementation (project stakeholders; action plans; timelines - identifying & sequencing tasks; project monitoring evaluation (what and how to monitor; what and how to evaluate). Underpinning the analysis and reflection is a critical evaluation of the philosophy of community participation in the design and implementation of project. At all stages of conceptual analysis will be supported by an examination and critical analysis of a range of `real world? community development projects.
