Module Learning Strategies
Project work will provide the framework through which learning will take place; it will integrate the practical with the theoretical and the technical aspects of your design specialism. There will be studio work, including introductory seminars/lectures, followed by group tutorials and crits to present findings/visuals.
Module Indicative Content
This module looks in more depth at Visual Communication; taking into account the visualisation of information in its many different forms. It deals with methods that may be used to communicate to specific target groups and the use of appropriate media. It is also designed to provide a platform for specialisation in this semester. You will be asked to consider the direction your studies may take in the future (level 3). With staff guidance you will draw on knowledge and experience gained so far to select/write project briefs that exploit areas you have shown ability and understanding in. This is to gain confidence within the subject and begin to develop your own personal `voice' and graphic language within your chosen specialism. This can be paper based or web based.
This module also includes PDP (personal development planning). This is addressed through the students responding to questionnaires and writing their own project brief. This process enables them to reflect on previous experience and address any skills or working practices that they have particular strengths or weaknesses in.
Module Additional Assessment Details
You will present for assessment a body of work as outlined in the module information pack. This is likely to include:
Notebooks, layout pads showing research and developmental work and a word processed project brief that demonstrates your knowledge and understanding of your chosen specialism within graphic design. [Learning Outcomes 1,2]
Also your ability to produce appropriate design solutions taking into account the audience it is designed for. [Learning Outcome 4]
Finished visuals presented in a suitable manner. [Learning Outcome 3]
