Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
An initial lecture (1 hour) explaining the key aspects of placement opportunities, matching aspirations to assessment requirements, reiterating individual's role and responsibilities whilst on placement.
Individual tutorials providing guidance and support based on student need providing feedback and aims (average total of 1 hour per student).
A notional 28 hours will be spent researching, identifying and negotiating placements and producing placement reports for assessment.
Students receive the introductory session for this module at the beginning of Semester One therefore have the freedom to use all or part of their placement time in either or across both semesters according to the availability of placement slots and class attendance.
Module Indicative Content
This module provides the opportunity to complete up to three weeks (120 hours) on professional work placement. The assigned module manager will support you in finding a relevant work placement opportunity but you are encouraged to arrange your own placements with employers or organisations working in those areas of graphic design, publication design, illustration, advertising or allied fields which interest you as possible career options e.g. branding, corporate identity, packaging, magazines, newspapers, design education, digital and multimedia, design management. You may carry out a single placement of 120 hours or a combination of placements adding up to 120 hours reflecting your range of interests. The module is self-directed with no classes or studio sessions other than an introductory session at the start of Semester One, with individual tutorial guidance, advice and support throughout.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A portfolio comprising of work done (development work/proofs/prints), an employer statement and student written assessment (2000 words). This will include a workplace diary and a reflective evaluation (Learning Outcomes: 1,2,3,4,5).
