Portfolio of 1,000 words (Library Quiz, Book Review, Notes on a lecture of student's choice)
presented in Week 6 - 50% (LO 1,2 and 4)
Essay of 1,000 words -Week 12 50% (LO 1,2,3, and 4)
Module Indicative Content
The module will introduce students to the ways in which modern history (from circa 1750 - present) has been constructed, interpreted and revised. It will encourage students to engage with a range of historical debates and texts and to identify and understand the ways in which these can be read. The students will also be assisted in acquiring the academic skills of : library research, using the computer for academic research, note-taking, essay structure and content, referencing and bibliographical conventions.
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures will provide an introduction to historiographical debates, specific approaches to the past through the work of particular historians, and seminars and workshops will develop skills and deepen knowledge. Tutorials in Week 3 and Week 9 will ensure contact with students and discussion of students' experience and progress on the module.
