Module Indicative Content
The aim of the module is to provide students with a chronological 'survey' framework for understanding major events and themes in modern world history from c.1750 to the present day. Themes include revolution, war, empire, nationalism, societal development and interaction, globalisation. The module will serve to scaffold other history modules on particular periods and areas of modern history, and provide a chronological underpinning for the more conceptual questioning posed in the Level 5 cores 'Interrogating the Modern' (Modern History) and `Development of the Global System- (Modern & International History). The academic skills required for the study of modern history will be included, and also reflection on the purpose and value of the study of modern history.

Module Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered through lectures, seminars and tutorials. It is envisaged that there will be contributions on academic study skills from the university study skills centre and/or use of materials provided by the centre. Blackboard will also be used to support the delivery of the module.
