INDICATIVE CONTENT
In this module students compare and contrast political institutions and processes in a range of countries around the world. The differences and similarities are identified and analysed, as, importantly, are the reasons for them. The module investigates political culture and participation in the various countries. The different types of state and constitution are examined. The electoral systems, political parties, groups, legislatures and political executives are also studied. By studying politics in this comparative way a fuller understanding of the institutions and processes is achieved.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The module incorporates three inter-dependent learning strategies. The lecture programme introduces the concepts and themes of the study of politics. The seminars provide for follow up discussion and clarification of the themes and an application of the approaches. Independent learning will be focused on directed reading and note-taking in preparation for lectures and an essay.
