Indicative Content
Unhappy, de-motivated staff can make a difference to the customer and staff experience within the Visitor Attraction Industry. It is essential managers are aware of how to identify signs of de-motivated staff and how to manage motivation to assist in a visitor attraction been successful. The module assists in identifying why members of staff within an organisation become de-motivated. Application of motivational theories and models will be introduced which will be analysed to identify how they could contribute towards improved motivation within a visitor attraction organisation.



Within the application and practice of theory several themes will be considered: -


Internal and external factors which contribute towards staff been de-motivated within an organisation

Impact of motivation on an organisation

How motivation theories and models can be applied within an organisation to assist in developing an engaged workforce

Management strategies which can contribute towards a motivated workforce for example a personal training plan

Additional Assessment Details
Based in a fictional case study (that will be provided to you) you are to present a professional report that suggests ways to improve moral throughout the organisation.



Scenario overview (fictional):

Following an extensive review of motivation in the workplace it has been identified that current employees feel demotivated and un-engaged with the organisation and its policies and procedures. Wages have been identified as adequate however the current culture, lack of training and opportunity is directly impacting upon employee retention (which is ultimately impacting upon recruitment costs and customer satisfaction).



Activity:

As an employee engagement officer, it is now your responsibility to suggest fully justified strategies (minimum 1, maximum 3) that can be implemented to increase staff moral with expected outcomes.

Learning Strategies
This Module is delivered face to face, over one Semester, to final year undergraduate VARM students, via a series of lectures, seminars and student interactive workshop presentations. These are supplemented by assignment workshops/tutorials and guest speakers.



Students need to be pro-active in taking responsibility for their own learning in order to benefit from the directed reading, workshop presentations and subsequent group discussions.
