Module Details
Module Indicative Content
The nature and dynamics of organisations:- the significance of culture; policies and intra-organisational conflicts; power and authority; lateral, functional and vertical relationships; management standards and styles; planning, organising and target setting; the pivotal role of the line/middle manager; system and process management.

The significance of strategic and visionary thinking; fostering innovation and creativity; developing a shared vision and direction and gaining support.

Developing self and others; self-management and appraisal.

Models and theories of change management and their application; developing a change culture; identifying; making and communicating the business case for change.

Creating a customer-centred culture:- models of customer service; service level agreements; preferred supplier status; essential infrastructure; lessons from 'world-class' enterprises; continuous improvement.
Module Learning Strategies
Tutor lead learning supported by recommended texts and articles. Student-centred learning will include case studies supported by background reading. Small group activity through which to practise application and develop wider discussion of issues and draw on student experience. Independent consolidation of understanding. Students will be expected to obtain a supplementary information from a range of paper and electronic sources and key readings will be provided. There will be a Residential event of 30 hours (shared with the Managing and Leading People Module) which will focus on the skills development aspects of the module.

Module Additional Assessment Details
Details :-
A 1500 word Assignment weighted at 30% (assesses Learning Outcome 1)
A 1.5 hour unseen Exam weighted at 70% (assesses Learning Outcomes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8)

Students must achieve at least 30% in both elements of assessment in order to pass the module.

Pass criteria
Will display a confident application of the theories and concepts introduced on the module. The response in the assessment will be expected to display evidence of having conducted background reading and to produce a reasoned argument to support recommendations.

Distinction criteria
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the topic and the ability to research and apply relevant knowledge to the question or task; to work collaboratively - displaying initiative and responsibility, to show an ability to critically analyse appropriate theories; to exercise judgement and incorporate originality; to adopt an excellent and relevant presentation of the answer.
