Details :-
A 1000 word assignment weighted at 30%. (LO 3, 4, 7 and 9)
A 1.5 hour Case Study based Exam weighted at 70%. (LO 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9)

Students must achieve at least 30% in all elements of assessment in order to pass the module.

Pass criteria
Will display a confident application of the theories and concepts introduced on the module. The response in the assessment will be expected to display evidence of having conducted background reading and to produce a reasoned argument to support recommendations.

Distinction criteria
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the topic and the ability to research and apply relevant knowledge to the question or task; to work collaboratively - displaying initiative and responsibility, to show an ability to critically analyse appropriate theories; to exercise judgement and incorporate originality; to adopt an excellent and relevant presentation of the answer.
Module Indicative Content
The changing environment for organisations; organisational responses; changing requirements for people - flexibility, responsiveness, entrepreneurialism, diversity, portfolio working, new patterns of core competencies, employability.

Identifying the characteristics of successful and poorly-performing organisations; assessment of contingent factors; strategic clarity; the importance of culture; fostering creativity and challenge.

Fundamentals of people resourcing; methods of systematic recruitment and selection; theories and models of motivation, leadership styles and job design; legal and ethical compliance; reaping the benefits of diversity.

Securing engagement, contribution and commitment; concepts and tools - the Thinking Performer, intrapreneurialism, discretionary behaviour and added value contribution; barriers to high-performance attitudes and behaviours.

Learning and development; strategies and practices; cost effectiveness; promotion and care of 'talent', the nature of employability.

People and performance; systematic strategies for reviewing, rewarding and recognising employee effort and achievement; techniques for addressing performance issues.
Module Learning Strategies
Tutor lead learning support by recommended texts and articles. Student-centred learning will include case studies supported by background reading. Small group activity through which to practise application and develop wider discussion of issues and draw on student experience. Independent consolidation of understanding. Students will be expected to obtain supplementary information from a range of paper and electronic sources and key readings will be provided. There will be a Residential event of 30 hours (shared with the Managing for Results Module) which will focus on the skills development aspects of the module.
