INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module aims to equip you with a broad introduction to the area of Fashion Imaging and Journalism, familiarising you with both written and visual aspects of the industry. The module forms the basic building block that you will need to build on throughout your degree as it introduces you to key ideas and issues in fashion theory. We will explore a general introduction to fashion, What is it? How does it inform us in our everyday lives? And we will begin to think about what could be called ‘the politics’ of fashion, which will help you lay the groundwork for work to come in the History and Theory of Fashion module.

You will also have the opportunity to get some real-world practice on this module as you will be expected to go out and actively report fashion related journalistic stories and produce multi-media packages, creating content for your own blog site.

This module will be lecture, seminar and workshop based. As part of the assessment you will be asked to design and contribute to your own Web / Blog site. You will be encouraged to become actively involved in research and practice around the Fashion industry.

Technical workshops will include areas such as digital 35mm DSLR camerawork (both still and moving), Introduction to the photography studio, basic editing software and introduction to Web / Blog site design. Visual and verbal presentation skills will be developed through practice in group tutorials, seminars and group critiques.
