Module Indicative Content
The module is designed to introduce all journalism students to the basics of news evaluation and news writing within a realistic but ethical framework. It will provide them with knowledge to understand what makes something newsworthy and the basic skills to carry out and use interviews. It also teaches students how to construct a simple news story for print, broadcast and online purposes. They will learn how to write an intro or a link and how to combine information and facts with direct quotes or interview clips. They will also be taught the importance to a reporter of accuracy and objectivity. By the end of the module students be able to put together a simple sports news report and match report. Work undertaken on this module - including field trips to sporting events - will also prepare students for the NCTJ Sports Journalism exam.
