Students will create original content for the Square Peg Gamers blog, and/or for a blog the student has designed and set up. They will also contribute content to the Square Peg Gamers YouTube channel (vlog) created for this module, and may also produce video content for their own channel on YouTube or on Twitch.
The blog/vlog will have a clearly-defined target audience, with content, design, presentation and writing styles to reflect audience expectations and needs.
Students will produce a portfolio of content both in class and in their own time, to include work set as in-class assessment pieces. The portfolio will include a minimum of 2,500 words (total) or original content, and/or video equivalent. [Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3]
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module introduces students to the techniques employed by successful games journalists working across web and mobile media outlets in producing content for gamers and the gaming industry. Including: understanding and building online audiences; blog/vlog site construction and development; user interaction; producing effective online content. LEARNING STRATEGIES
12 x seminar/workshops (2 hours) = 24 hours
Demonstrating and developing the knowledge and skills underpinning successful blogging and vlogging with emphasis on content delivery and techniques to find and build an online audience.
Independent learning = 126 hours
Developing and employing acquired skills in blog/vlog production for specified audiences and building portfolio of web-based games journalism.
