The module builds upon the theoretical approaches students were introduced to in the level four core module Thinking Journalism.
Areas include: Globalisation theories; news values; ownership censorship and control; theories of objectivity; ethics; political communication; representations of race and gender; Americanisation; journalism futures
Module Learning Strategies
Blended learning - 8 x one hour lectures, 8 x one hour seminars, 3 x 2 hour workshops (22 hours), plus independent learning (128 hours)
Lectures will outline and assess relevant theoretical approaches - seminars and workshops will explore in-depth the relationship between theoretical approaches and empirical practice.
