The design and layout of an inside tabloid news page, a double page spread of a British national or regional newspaper, a front page tabloid news page and the design and layout of a magazine front cover, sourcing content and designing a page for Fringe magazine, submitting a page produced for StaffsLive, all demonstrating advanced sub-editing skills. (Learning Outcomes 1-5)

Indicative Content
This module provides knowledge, understanding and experience of processing words and pictures for newspaper and magazine use through an introduction to production methods constraints and needs, while also improving reporting and writing skills. It introduces computer-based editing and design using industry-standard software (Indesign) typography, layout, the use of headlines, and the analysis of how news values and reader needs and expectations are addressed through the editing process. Within the module you will have an in class assessment which is based on the format of the NCTJ production journalism exam aligning it to professional standards. There will also be a written submission outlining an idea to develop a new newspaper and show awareness of the needs of a target audience.
