Module Indicative Content
The focus for this module is on working to full professional standards as a respected colleague in sports media for this final work placement, the culmination of a continuous cycle of placements throughout the award. Students are required to have developed the contacts and accumulated experience in the two earlier placement modules, combined with informed and dedicated interest in particular modes of sports media operations, e.g. press office/PR work, newspapers, local radio, sports websites etc, to negotiate full professional placements. In some instances these placements could be fully paid positions, but in all cases the placements must concentrate throughout on working as sports media professionals. Students grasp of what is required to operate to such standards must be demonstrated in work required for assessment. Students must produce a detailed 2,500-word analysis of the inter-personal, technical and performance aspects of work undertaken as well as a substantial body of evidence, e.g. cuttings and/or recordings which show continuous performance to the standards expected by the industry. The module runs over two semesters, earning 60 credits, allowing students to negotiate placements spread across the year, assisting the scheduling of existing careers, personal lives and studies. As with the previous two placement modules students will be advised to undertake placements with a maximum of two organisations, negotiated and agreed with the module tutor, although it is likely that most students, by this stage, will have developed strong links with one particular organisation. They will also be monitored throughout by the employer and the module tutor. Students and employers will have continual consultation with the module tutor. The employer will deliver a formal statement of the student's performance. Assessment, in addition to the analysis and cuttings/recordings, will be based on a 3,500-word body of writing comprising of a placement report, a workplace diary and a reflective evaluation of the module and the placement schedule overall.
