Module Indicative Content
Initially you will explore the topic of mindsets and how these can have a significant impact on your life and the decisions you make about your future. Through recognising the mindsets around you, you can make better decisions about how you live your life.
Then you will consider how genetics and what you experience as you mature influence your perception of yourself and others. By understanding how these influences shape the way you think, feel and act, you will be in a better position to make choices that help you fulfil your true potential and go on to help others do the same.
You will learn key academic writing skills such as Harvard Referencing, essay writing, report writing and executive summaries . By gaining basic skills of academic and professional writing you will be able to communicate your new ideas more effectively and to a wider audience.
You will explore some of the basic relationships between education, economy and society. With an understanding of economic relationships you will appreciate the connection between yourself and your community.
Finally you will consider the institutional framework that supports and promotes life-long learning such as government initiatives, art foundations and charitable educational bodies. By appreciating the network of bodies that support lifelong learning within a community, you will be better placed to form alliances and partnerships that promote a powerful agenda of lifelong learning and capacity building.

60% Essay applying Kolb/Personal development to a personal development strategy (2,000 words) (LO 1, 4)

Module Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered through a blended learning approach as defined in the Programme Specification. Theoretical learning will be embedded in workplace and community activity through the Reflective Journal and work undertaken for the Skills Report.
The key learning activity will be study of the Module Course book, which will contain the written equivalent of a full lecture programme. Course Books include a number of tasks to be carried out as formative assessment, with opportunities to obtain online, email and telephone support in the completion of these. This will be mediated through Google VLE support.

The residential session will include an introduction to the Course Book by the module tutor, together with a workshop session intended to help students contextualise the planned learning within their work. Opportunities will also be provided to work with tutors and the course leader on the reflective journal, the skills report and the assessment, in preparation for the independent study at a distance.
Half way through the module there will be a workshop delivered by VLE. This will involve the module tutor interacting with students in a prepared format. The course leader will also lead the students in a review of reflective journals and skills development.
