1 x Case Study (to be completed at home) 50%
1 x Essay (1500 words) 50%

To pass this module students much achieve an overall mark of at least 40%. Students must achieve at least 35% in all assessed elements of this module.
Module Indicative Content
This module will run in both Semester 1 and Semester 2. You will be introduced to the elements of a crime and explore the concept of actus reus and mens rea within the context of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. You will then go on to further develop your understanding of these key concepts through the Homocide offences. This module will be studied alongside the appropriate themes of morality and justice. In addition you will develop such skills as reading case law, essay writing and research.
Module Learning Strategies
These Learning Strategies will occupy your time. There are 24 weeks of normal classes including two reading weeks. Lectures provide a basic framework of concepts and principles. Classes will also include interactive learning activities such as group discussion, presentations, tests, video, web-based activities and written formative and summative assessments.
