This Unit (Unit 2)
The unit aim: The learner will understand key concepts, terms and processes in the area of Contract Law
1. Understand the concept of contract.
2. Understand the rules for establishing whether a valid offer and acceptance have taken place
3 Understand the concept of consideration in contract.
4. Understand the rules for determining a partys intention to enter into a contract
5 Understand how terms are incorporated into a contract
6. Understand the classification of different provisions of a contract, and the implication of categorisation
7. Understand misrepresentation and its consequences.
8. Understand the ways in which a contract might be discharged
9. Understand the remedies available where a contract has been breached

Module: Web Descriptor
This unit is delivered as part of the Chartered Legal Executive Award, is designed to cover the learning needed for the CILEx Level 3 Unit 2 module. CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice. This is the first stage of professional training and it is designed for learners wishing to progress to Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice and to reach the ultimate goal of Chartered Legal Executive and Fellows of the professional body CILEx.
The qualification is suitable for those who are already at work in legal roles and who are looking to develop their knowledge and skills in order to progress.
It is also suitable for those with little or no experience of the Law and Legal Practice and who are interested in developing a practical and broad understanding of Law and Legal Practice.
This unit is one of 10 units delivered by Staffordshire University to qualify for CILEx level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice.
This unit can be delivered as a stand-alone module (not part of the apprenticeship delivery) this will benefit those who wish to study individual CILEx units with support from Staffordshire University and sit the CILEx exams at Staffordshire University.

Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module is based around students committing a total of 25 guided hours towards achieving the learning outcomes over a 13-week semester, to include a block of 7 hours Face to Face contact with a tutor delivered at the end of the module unit.
A further 18 hours of guided learning is provided by way of e-technology examples of this type of learning are;
Independent and unsupervised research/learning
Unsupervised past paper exercises
Watching a pre-recorded podcast, webinar or voice-over power-point
Unsupervised weekly activity tasks to consolidate learning
Tutor focused summary sheets for students to compare and contrast their learning.
Discussion tabs for students to anonymously ask questions on any topic on the module.
Face to Face Contact will include a mixture of small and larger group tutor led activities, working on consolidation and preparation for students to sit their CILEx exams either in Jan or June of each year.
Students will be expected to be familiar with contemporary discussions in this area of law, and to bring a range of ideas to bear on the discussions. These part time students will all be employed in a range of legal settings which will equip them with actual practical knowledge and application of the learning that they can share in their studies. Thus, although there will be a framework of knowledge and understanding, students will be actively, rather than passively, engaged in the process of both learning about, and increasing understanding of, the subject matter, as well as applying the learning to actual employment situations which will further enhance their knowledge, understanding and application.
The module will use a blend of teaching methods to enable different styles of learning to be facilitated, and to meet the needs of work-based part time learners. The differing methods will also be a platform for the development of essential skills such as intellectual skills, communication skills and problem solving, as well as research, teamwork, negotiation, presentation, referencing, argument, judgement and appropriate use of IT.
