Module Additional Assessment Details
There are two components of assessment, both of which contribute equally to the assessment of the final grade:

ASSESSMENT A
A presentation (maximum 20 minutes) at the end of outcome 2 delivery weighted at 50% assessing Learning Outcome 1&2. The presentation will require a demonstration of knowledge and understanding in regard to the construction of social structures and the impact on the services

ASSESSMENT B
At the end of learning outcome 3 a written assignment of 1500 words maximum, assessing learning outcome 3 weighted at 50%. Concentration will be on the element of criminal behaviour and discrimination.
To successfully complete the assignment you will be required use real life examples and illustrations that you have encountered on your work placement. You will liaise with your tutor in identifying the appropriateness of real life experiences

To pass this module you must achieve a grade of at least 40% in each of the assessed tasks.

Formative
You will receive formative feedback from peers and tutors during class-based tasks and discussions. They will also receive formative feedback regarding the assignment during personal tutorials.
Module Learning Strategies
Whole Group sessions: a weekly lecture, (1.5hours * 24 weeks) introducing and defining basic ideas and concepts in regard to the module content. Lectures supported by appropriate visual aids and associated handout reading and study plans. This will include small groups and 1-1 tutorials these tutorials are also built upon independent learning: it is here where you will be offered support in regard to your development tailored to the formative assessment within the varying modules.
All topics will be delivered in the context of current events, this will require you to keep a diary of these as integrating them into your work will show your knowledge and understanding of the required information

A session will be delivered regarding the equality and diversity statements of the public services. This will give you valuable insight into the policies you will be facing in your future career. Partaking in this session will ensure your appreciation of equality and diversity and the role that it plays in current contemporary society.

Directed Study/Independent Learning: You will work with the prescribed course text throughout the teaching block. Some of this preparation will be organised by the use of internet sources. You will be provided with feedback from tutorials to assist your work. (264 Hours)

You will be required to keep a diary of current events that affect contemporary society, doing this will allow you to consider the issue in light of your placements and visits within the varied Public Services.

The economic crisis
Eurozone
Banking

Module Indicative Content
Within this module you will be considering the society you live in and the differing individuals that make up society. Only by doing this will they be able to consider how varying elements such as; culture, family, societal change, political and economic factors, cultural values and beliefs impact on you, society and on the public services.
By scrutinising contemporary society you will be able to develop your understanding of how structures are built and the impact these can have.
Once you are able to appreciate how and why social structures are made and the individuals who operate within them you will start to appreciate the understanding of criminal behaviour.

Throughout this module you will receive a session on equality and diversity allowing you to reflect on the importance of managing prejudice and discrimination specifically within the public services.

Guest speakers will be involved from a variety of services, each offering a differing perspective on society and criminal behaviour. Following from this you will be able to appreciate the importance of understanding Contemporary Social Problems and the impact they have on the Public Services
