Module Learning Strategies
Whole Group sessions: a weekly lecture, (1.5 hours * 24 weeks) introducing and defining basic ideas and concepts in regard to the module content. Lectures supported by appropriate visual aids and associated handout reading and study plans. This will include small groups and 1-1 tutorials these sessions are also built upon independent learning: it is here where you will be offered support in regard to your development tailored to the formative assessment within the varying modules. (36 hours)
Directed Study/Independent Learning: Students will work with the prescribed course text throughout the teaching block. Some of this preparation will be organised by the use of internet sources. Students will be provided with feedback from tutorials to assist their work. (264 Hours)
You are required to perform within set public services roles in order to get an idea of what you will be facing in your vocational future.

Whilst performing in these tasks you will be required to complete a reflective journal on a specified format which will cover elements such as; strengths and development areas, methodology to develop and target setting. Alongside the information you have gathered the workplace mentor in charge of the task will also fill in a mentor log which will give you the opportunity to compare your perceived skill against that of a Public Service mentor. Doing this will allow you to use and compile the information gathered to complete the project.

Module Indicative Content
For this module work based element contacts have been made with a variety of services whereby you will be able to participate in a variety of different elements of public service life. These will cover elements such as witnessing and performing within the police, support and development of skills in the fire service and interviewing within the army to name a few.
Ultimately from this module the aim will be for you to consider yourself as an individual and your skills in light of the Public Service requirements. Having this vocational input will allow you to offer suggestions on how to develop your skills and become more effective in the role you wish to perform.
Module Additional Assessment Details
ASSESSMENT A
An end of year project of 5,000 words weighted at 80% assessing all Learning Outcomes. The presentation will require a demonstration of information gathering and collating whereby you will come to a justified conclusion about your current level and how it has developed through interaction and reflection.
ASSESSMENT B
Following from your project at the end of Learning Outcome 3 you are required to present your main findings to the group (maximum 20 minutes). This will give you the opportunity to have your work critically evaluated and to offer any support in regard to the information you have presented weighted at 20%
To pass this module you must achieve a grade of at least 40% in each of the assessed tasks.
Formative
You will receive formative feedback from workplace mentors and through the reflective journal you are required to complete; this will allow constructive personal and vocational development. This formative feedback is paramount to the development of the final project as it forms the basis of your ability to reflect.
Summative
A final 5,000 word project based on the deciphering and reflecting of information gathered and collated throughout the year.
