1. Demonstrate fundamental knowledge and understanding of how criminal Law is applied with the context of the criminal justice system in England and Wales.

ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Individual poster presentation (meets learning outcomes 1-4) focuses on a topic taken from the module materials either a crime, process or area of criminal law of interest to the learner. The learner will create the presentation using PowerPoint and deliver the presentation to tutors. The tutors will ask questions after the initial presentation to examine subject specific knowledge.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The learners will explore the law relating to some of the most serious and/or common criminal offences, including murder, manslaughter, non-fatal offences against the person, and offences against property. Learners will explore a range of both specific and general defences, such, self-defence, diminished responsibility and insanity. The module will cover several key concepts and fundamental principles of criminal liability such as fitness to plead and accessorial liability. The learners will consider some basic rules of evidence and aspects of sentencing.
Topics covered on the module are likely to include:
-Key principles of criminal liability, such as actus reus and mens rea
-Commonly charged offences: manslaughter, non-fatal offences against the person, fraud and sexual offences.
-General and partial defences
-Evidential rules
-Sentencing
-Appeals and the Criminal Court of Appeal

Criminal law is an exciting subject, which you will find enjoyable and engaging. You will explore the law relating to some of the most serious and/or common criminal offences, including homicide, non-fatal offences against the person and fraud. Learners will explore a range of defences, such as, self-defence, diminished responsibility and insanity. You will learn about several key contemporary concepts of criminal liability such as fitness to plead and accessorial liability. You will consider some basic rules of evidence and aspects of sentencing to provide you will an effective and practical overview.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
For 200 hours, of which 39 hours will consist of class contact and 141 hours of independent guided learning. Class contact consists of one hour per week (for 13 weeks) online lecture sessions; two-hour in person workshop which include a variety of teaching and learning methods including case studies, discussions and presentations.
