Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
Whole Group Sessions-
These are used to introduce and identify `core' issues within particular subject areas and to act as the foundation of preparation for the programme of tutorial sessions
2 hours per week for 11 weeks= 22 hours
Small Group Sessions-
These will be used to explore the topics studied in greater depth and will use a variety of teaching and learning methods.Emphasis will be placed on encouraging and developing independent learning,legal analysis and the ability to present reasoned arguments in a housing context
5 hours per semester=5 hours
Directed Study and Independent Learning-
Students will be expected to adopt a contextual approach to the module by undertaking research and preparation for tutorials and exploring additional sources.In particular,it will be necessary to read leading cases in the law reports,refer to relevant professional journals and,where available,use appropriate housing based computer software.

Module Indicative Content
This module is an examination of housing law in England and Wales. It involves an introduction and overview of law and housing policy.The module then provides students with the opportunity to consider the following issues in greater depth:
- The provision and allocation of housing in the private & public sectors
- The legal characteristics of housing lettings
- The operation of secure tenancies and the right to buy provisions
- Housing disrepair
- Homelessness
- The operation of lettings in the private rented sector
- Harassment,unlawful eviction and neighbour problems
- Housing Associations & registered social landlords/private registered providers
- The provision and allocation of housing in the private & public sectors
- The legal characteristics of housing lettings
