CILEx set all exams and mark all exams in accordance with the specific unit outcomes.
Upon completion of CILEx unit exams, students will meet their learning outcomes.

This (Unit 17)

The unit aim: To accredit a broad and detailed understanding of the Practice of Conveyancing

1. Understand conveyancing practice in relation to interests in land and the transfer of legal estates
2. Understand how to take conveyancing instructions
3. Understand how to prepare a contract for sale
4. Understand title and its investigation
5. Understand issues relating specifically to leasehold property transactions
6. Understand what easements or management arrangements need to be put in place when transferring or leasing part of a wider title
7. Understand the legal responsibilities in relation to funding property transactions
8. Understand other pre-exchange issues in relation to planning/building regulations and newly built residential properties
9. Understand how to complete a conveyancing transaction
10. Understand how to deal with post completion formalities
11. Understand how to deal with late completion and other default

The Graduate Fast-Track Diploma is designed solely to accredit legal practice knowledge and understanding. For those learners with a background in law, the fast track programme is a streamlined way to achieve CLE.

The Fast Track learner will undertake 2 practice papers, 1 of which must link to a law module studied at undergraduate level. In addition, 1 skills module, fast track learners are only required to study client care skills.

1 practice paper is set as a core unit (Civil Litigation) this is the link unit to contract law which will have been studied at undergraduate level. The learner then has a choice of 6 practice areas to choose from.

This unit can be delivered as a stand-alone module (not part of the apprenticeship delivery) this will benefit those who wish to study individual CILEx units with support from Staffordshire University and sit the CILEx exams at Staffordshire University.

The learning strategy for this module is based around students committing a total of 21 guided hours towards achieving the learning outcomes over a 13-week semester, to include a block of 9 hours Face to Face contact with a tutor delivered at the end of the module unit.

A further 12 hours of guided learning is provided by way of e-technology examples of this type of learning are;

• Independent and unsupervised research/learning
• Unsupervised past paper exercises
• Watching a pre-recorded podcast, webinar or voice-over power-point
• Unsupervised weekly activity tasks to consolidate learning
• Tutor focused summary sheets for students to compare and contrast their learning.
• Discussion tabs for students to anonymously ask questions on any topic on the module.

Face to Face Contact will include a mixture of small and larger group tutor led activities, working on consolidation and preparation for students to sit their CILEx exams either in Jan or June of each year.

Students will be expected to be familiar with contemporary discussions in this area of law, and to bring a range of ideas to bear on the discussions. These part time students will all be employed in a range of legal settings which will equip them with actual practical knowledge and application of the learning that they can share in their studies. Thus, although there will be a framework of knowledge and understanding, students will be actively, rather than passively, engaged in the process of both learning about, and increasing understanding of, the subject matter, as well as applying the learning to actual employment situations which will further enhance their knowledge, understanding and application.

The module will use a blend of teaching methods to enable different styles of learning to be facilitated, and to meet the needs of work-based part time learners. The differing methods will also be a platform for the development of essential skills such as intellectual skills, communication skills and problem solving, as well as research, teamwork, negotiation, presentation, referencing, argument, judgement and appropriate use of IT.

All on-line materials map to the relevant CILEx unit specification for exam purposes. Students are not expected to purchase any textbooks under the CILEx apprenticeship programme.
Students can undertake and it is encouraged, wider reading via our university online resources.
