The summative assessment assesses Learning Outcomes 1 - 5.
The summative assessment is supported by one piece of formative assessment which will require students to complete a research exercise demonstrating skills and reflection in relation to electronic resources relevant to the assignment. The formative assessment will assess Learning Outcomes 3, 4 and 5.
Module Learning Strategies
The focus of the module is on self-directed study and preparation for a series of seminars. The self-directed study is supported by a study guide and various web links as well as traditional learning materials. The study guide supports the module by providing:
1. An outline of the relevant subject matter.
2. The learning objectives for that particular topic.
3. Learning outcomes for that particular section of the course.
4. Recommended reading.
5. Suggested questions and issues to assist in selection of presentation topic.
The independent study will also focus on the preparation of presentations to be delivered in a seminar setting. The presentations will form the basis of group discussion and debate.
Module Indicative Content
Students will be expected to critically analyse and explain the framework of legal controls relating to the protection of the environment, as well as being able to apply substantive principles to practical scenarios. Students will also be expected to critically evaluate the effectiveness of the current environmental protection regime in the UK. In particular, students will be expected to develop a critical understanding of the legal regime relating to the protection of the environment and control of polluting activities, within the UK. Specific topics include:

1. Regulation and Enforcement of Environmental Law.
2. Environmental Crime and Civil Liability.
3. Water Pollution Controls.
4. Integrated Pollution Control and Air Pollution Control.
5. The Management of Waste and Contaminated Land
