ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Students will undertake a closed-book Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) assessment using Single Best Answer Questions (SBAQs), mirroring the SRA’s SQE1 assessment structure. The assessment will consist of 90 SBAQs covering all FLK2 subject areas and will be delivered online under timed conditions. The time allowed for this assessment is 2 hours and 33 minutes (153 minutes). The assessment is designed to match the coverage, format, and rigor of the SRA SQE1 to ensure market consistency and high-quality exam preparation. This assessment will also assess learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 4.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module covers core areas of legal practice relating to property, estates, and criminal law. It addresses property law and practice, including freehold and leasehold conveyancing, as well as mortgages. Wills and the administration of estates are explored through topics such as intestacy, probate, and estate planning. Criminal liability law and practice is considered in relation to offences, procedural rules, and sentencing. The module also covers solicitors’ accounts, focusing on client money handling, compliance with regulatory requirements, and accurate financial record-keeping. Land law and trusts law are also covered. Ethics and professional conduct are embedded throughout all areas of study.

This module is designed to prepare you for the Functioning Legal Knowledge 2 (FLK2) component of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1). It covers key areas of legal knowledge including Property Law and Practice, Wills and the Administration of Estates, Criminal Liability Law and Practice, Land Law, Trusts Law and Solicitors Accounts. Professional ethics are embedded throughout the module. The module enables you to apply legal principles, interpret legal materials, and engage in realistic problem-solving as required in legal practice.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Teaching and learning are delivered through a blend of lectures, case-based seminars, guided independent study, and online SBAQ practice. Students will engage with complex legal problems in simulated professional contexts to prepare for SQE1 and legal practice more broadly. In terms of inclusivity, core learning materials are made available in multiple accessible formats to accommodate a range of accessibility needs.
