INDICATIVE CONTENT
Numeracy: arithmetic operations, percentages, powers, roots, ratios and average.
Algebra: Laws of Indices, logarithms, factorisation, solution of equations, tranformation of formulae, logarithmic and exponential functions.
Trigonometry: solution of triangles, graphs, general solution of simple trigonometric equations.
Calculus: differentiation of simple functions, application to extrema and engineering problems, definite and indefinite integrals.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A Class Test weighted at 100%.
Test comprising a suite of four equally weighted 40 minute tests assessing learning outcomes 1-4.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Core theoretical material will be delivered through lectures (24 hours), while tutorial/practical sessions (48 hours) will give opportunities to apply techniques to a variety of practical problems.
Delivery will typically bea 1 hour lecture and 2 x one hour tutorial/practicals per week.
Excel practical sessions will be used where appropriate to underpin knowledge and to illustrate graphical solutions when mathematical/algebraic techniques are introduced/applied.
