Module Indicative Content
Directed numbers; fractions; percentages; powers; decimals; approximation; rates and averages; basic algebra including expanding brackets, factorisation and unit conversion; simplifying algebraic expressions; solving algebraic equations; transposing formulae; linear graphs and equations; quadratic graphs and equations; simultaneous equations.
Module Learning Strategies
Delivery will be via a 1 hour lecture and 2 hour workshop/tutorial session. Lecture material will demonstrate and explain fundamental mathematical concepts and techniques. The workshops will be based around self-study materials which will reinforce the lecture material and provide an opportunity to practice the techniques. Students will also be expected to utilise computer-based materials e.g. LTSN Mathcentre DVD during independent study hours.

Module Special Admissions Requirements
Students with a GCSE Grade B or above in mathematics are not permitted to take the module expect by agreement with the module leader.
