Module Details
Module Indicative Content
An introduction to and advanced applications of a mathematical software package such as MAPLE.
Eigenvalue analysis with Applications: simplifying linear systems; solving systems of differential equations.
Fourier analysis including the use of Fourier series to obtain a frequency analysis of periodic functions and Fourier transforms for transient functions. An elementary analysis of the application of Fourier transforms to filter theory.
Module Additional Assessment Details
1. The assignment will comprise two pieces of work, each using a mathematical package to assess the implementation of the module content to sophisticated problems and techniques. This will cover learning outcomes 1 and 3.

2. A final exam (2 hours) to assess the application of the techniques to problems and the interpretation of the solutions. This will cover learning outcome 2.

Module Learning Strategies
Delivery will comprise 2 hours lecture every week for 12 weeks, a 2 hour practical in week 1, a 1 hour practical in week 2 and a 1 hour tutorial in weeks 2-12 inclusive.

Students will also be provided with supplementary software materials.
