Module Details
Module Indicative Content
You will study a variety of aspects connected with the design, operation and analysis of a survey including:
- Research and literature review
- Defining survey objectives
- Sampling strategies, Questionnaire design
- Ethical considerations
- Data exploration & analysis
- Interpretation & communication of results
You will look at the theory and application of some of the most common statistical techniques such as confidence intervals, hypothesis testing (parametric & non-parametric), analysing associations/correlations, linear regression, ANOVER and estimation.
Module Additional Assessment Details
1. 60% Class Test assessing Learning Outcomes 3 & 4 and comprising of 2 equally weighted 1.5 hour class tests.
2. 40% report of 3,000 words (approx) assessing Learning Outcomes 1 & 2 describing how to conduct an attitude survey on a major scale and detailing the analysis, results and conclusions of an associated small pilot survey including the initial survey proposal within the appendices
Module Learning Strategies
Learning will take place via 24 hours of lectures (1 a week) and 48 hours of tutorial/practical time (2 a week). Lectures will provide students with a broad overview of the indicative content and the tutorial/practical sessions will allow students to practise the material covered in the lectures through problem solving and application.
