Module Indicative Content
To provide practical experience of working within and for an organisation.
To experience at first hand the practical application of some of the computing theory and methods covered at levels C and I.
To develop appropriate behaviour attitudes within the work environment.
To provide practical experience in the legal, social and ethical issues of working within an organisation.
To apply and further develop communication and decision-making skills.
Module Additional Assessment Details


1. Work experience duration, weighted at 0%.
2. Employer report - mark given by the student's line manager for the placement, weighted at 40% Learning Outcomes 3,5,1
3. Visit report - mark given by the tutor who visits the student, weighted at 20% Learning Outcomes1,2,4
4. Report - mark given for report on the placement, written by the student, weighted at 40% Learning Outcomes 1,2,4

To pass, a student must have:
1. Completed, normally, 48 weeks of relevant work experience (32 weeks for Bridging course students).
2. Achieved at least 40% in the Placement Report.
3. Achieved an aggregate mark from components 1 - 4 (above) of 40% or more.

The module cannot be compensated.
Module Learning Strategies
Besides undertaking an agreed programme of work with their employer, students will develop their learning from:
General relevant technical material.
The use of various software packages, programming languages, equipment and software technologies.
The experience of working to targets, often in a managed team.

This module normally runs across the year: July/August xx to September xx + 1.

Typically, contact time will be 4 hours, with a notional 956 hours of independent study.

Must be eligible to proceed to an industrial placement, and must be registered on a computing award at the Stoke campus.
